Jury Duty is an amazingly innovative app that will give you the control you need to take your voir dire to the next level. During voir dire, you the trial lawyer have a limited amount of time to get to know the potential jurors. As a litigator you understand that in order to do this you must quickly build rapport and get every potential juror talking. Jury Duty provides you with all the tools necessary to customize your voir dire and save the information you get from the potential jurors while eliminating the distracting pen, paper and handwritten seating chart.

The “Add Juror” feature is where you create your juror list. Instead of attempting to handwrite each juror’s name into a small box on a paper seating chart, you enter as little or as much information on each juror into Jury Duty. This list of potential jurors can then be emailed for further research.

Jury Duty’s seating chart feature allows the trial lawyer to customize the layout for a particular courtroom, so the chart in front of you looks identical to the panel of potential jurors. Once the layout is established, you can then assign jurors to each square. These squares now become white with each juror’s number in black. By not assigning a juror to each seat in a row or column, you can create the effect of an aisle.

In preparation for your voir dire, you have identified those topics you need to discuss with the panel of potential jurors. You can enter all your voir dire topics and keep track of which ones you have discussed with the panel.

After you have entered all the case and juror information, you are ready to conduct your voir dire. While addressing a potential juror, you select that juror’s seat on the chart. A large, easy to read, pop-up with the juror’s information appears allowing you to address that juror by name. This pop-up screen is where you record your thoughts and opinions. When you complete the examination of a particular juror and close the pop–up, that juror’s square changes color from white to blue. This feature provides you with the ability to glance down and immediately know which jurors you have spoken with, so you can be certain you have engaged each potential juror.

The pop-up also allows you to enter detailed notes on each juror. Most trial lawyers will not want to be distracted from the voir dire process for long periods of time by typing in notes. But, Jury Duty’s Bluetooth capability allows the lawyer’s co-counsel or assistant to enter the notes and then compare the two reports once the voir dire is complete. Lastly, all the information you have recorded is available in an easy to read report that can be emailed and/or printed.
